Every year humpback whales leave the feeding grounds of Antarctica around July and head to the French Polynesian's warm waters where they breed and give birth.

On this exclusive and small group tour your expert guide will share fascinating facts about these magnificent animals as you leave the marina.

Board the boat for an exciting ride out to the whaling grounds. Once the whales are spotted breathing and surfacing your boat will slowly approach and, at the opportune time, your guide will instruct you to get into the water with your fins, mask, and snorkel. Participants can opt to stay dry and observe the whales from the comfort of the boat without entering the water.

Float in the water while these curious mammals come up to greet you. While under the waves you might even hear the song of a male as he is about to jump out of the water! Keep your eyes out for other whale species including Cuvier Beaked, Blainville and Pilot.

Dolphin appearances are a year-round phenomenon here and stingray sightings are also common.

Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing over a swimsuit. Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, beach towel and comfortable walking shoes.

Restrictions

Guests must be able to get in and out of the transportation independently and should be in moderate physical health, with no back or respiratory problems. This tour is not recommended for guests who are pregnant. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to consume alcohol. The tour is wheelchair accessible. For those who wish to go in the water with the whales, it's important to note that you must be in good physical condition. Due to regulations, the boat is not permitted to approach within 100 meters of the whales. This means you must be able to swim approximately 100 meters with fins to reach them and the same distance to return. Swimming in the open ocean requires more energy and stamina than swimming in a lagoon, so please assess your capabilities realistically. Furthermore, no more than six people are allowed in the water at a time in order to avoid disturbing the whales. If everyone in the group wants to swim, we will divide into two groups to ensure the experience remains respectful and compliant with the guidelines.
